Here is a list of the 55 food items (along with some spices) I always want to have at my fingertips.  If I were to move and start from scratch, I would stock my kitchen with the “essentials” list in the first couple weeks; the “helpful extras” would come soon after. This works for a small budget and a small space but still provides room for variety.

I did not include much fresh produce because it is more seasonal and perishable than the other items, and it can be easily incorporated into meals using the ingredients below.  The baking category could also be pared down if you don’t intend to ever make desserts or bread items.  This is a starting point!
