Today when I felt like a quick, fresh pick-me-up, this smoothie hit the spot.  Here are the basic proportions I used:

  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 handful fresh spinach (a hearty cup)
  • 2/3 cups frozen mixed berries

Throw the above ingredients in a blender.  Blend for a couple minutes on high or until you you don’t see flecks of spinach.  This smoothie isn’t very sweet (which I like), but if you like more sweetness you can add some banana or pineapple.  If you need it to stick with you longer, you can add a couple spoonfuls of protein powder, an egg, or even substitute some of the yogurt with sour cream (sounds disgusting, but it really isn’t).  If the idea of spinach in a smoothie grosses you out, you can also omit that, but I don’t think it affects the flavor in a bad way.

If you have a few extra minutes, stick your glass in the freezer…because, in my opinion, smoothies always taste better in a frosted glass.
